Barfield Park in the Snow 3-5-15

Had fun on my snow day off from work. I trudged out to Barfield Crescent Park and walked the paved trail to the Stones River junction of the Marshall Knobs trail, intending to go the full four miles.

But, after arriving at the river it was over its banks from the previous days rains and the trail was impassable.

I wandered around in the snow taking nice shots of ice covered trees and a gorgeous landscape. Sadly, I was the only one who took an interest in the park. The snow was as fresh as a bed of cotton and my shoeprints were the only ones.

Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail (Ashland City, TN) 2-1-14

Part of the National Rails To Trails Program located in Ashland City Tennessee, this old railroad bed was converted to a greenway which follows the path of the old train track. A highlight of this little trek is an original train trestle over the Cumberland River.

I invited some fellow Tennessee Trails members to go with me since we did not have an “official” hike scheduled this weekend and I had only one taker—Ann Ford and I enjoyed this little hike. It was flat, but much longer than I expected.

DEEP FREEZE 2014

This has been a brutally cold winter here in Middle Tennessee. We have had lows BELOW zero and highs in the teens. Very unusual for us so I took the advantage to go and look at a usually active Percy Priest Lake…..not active today, JUST FROZEN

Here are some shots of Percy Priest Lake at Stewart’s Creek Boat Ramp on 1-29-14 .I have never seen the lake frozen this solid. The boats are sitting in ice. The lake is really low too as you can tell by the “waterless pier”

ABANDON SHIP! 1-29-14

This “ship” was just sitting out in the open not far from Percy Priest Lake at Stewart’s Creek in Smyrna, TN.  It looks like at one time it might have been a nice boat.

Any salvagers out there?
