Nashville ZOO 7-26-13

Went to the Nashville Zoo to shoot some pics and luckily, most of the animals were active. The Savanna Loop was shut down for “maintenance” so the larger animals–giraffes, lions, elephants, etc. were all unavailable.

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip (despite the awful humidity).  I took lots of photos that were not fit to show publicly due to lighting or some obstacle in my way such as an arm or a head and there was a little reflection in the glass cages of the “underground” world and I edited them the best I could.

Enjoy your trip through the zoo, and don’t forget to see the whole gallery HERE!

Duck River Float (Dement Bridge to Hwy 41A Bridge) 7-20-13

To view the full gallery click HERE!

Today’s float was a 10.7 miler on the Duck River. we put in at Dement Bridge near Normandy, TN and took out at the HWY 41A Bridge near Shelbyville.

The river was up due to the very wet summer that we have had so far and as a result the obstacles in the water were plentiful. I found out the hard way when my kayak met a very big underwater log and flipped. At the time, I felt no injuries and finished the float without any issues. But, late in the day the pain started. I may have a cracked wrist and my left foot is swollen and blue from bruising.

I guess I should consider myself lucky because in the years that I have been kayaking, I have never been injured. Although, I have flipped quite a bit there has never been anything serious come from it except hurt pride.

We had 20 people on our float. It was mainly people from various chapters of the Tennessee Trails Association . Special thanks to Tom Bentley for putting the trip together.

Stones River Float (Thompson Lane to Nice Mill Dam) 7-14-13

To view the full gallery click HERE!

We put in at Thompson Lane trail head and took out about 5 miles later at Nice Mill Dam. I didn’t take as many pictures as I wanted to because the river was way up and very swift and then it rained on us….I was afraid i might flip and lose my camera.

The river was raging. Normally a very docile river was about a Class II rapid river after the rains. We all got wet from the small waterfalls we had to go over and then the rain which eventually found us.

It was THE PERFECT float.

Metro Center Levee 7-11-13 (Nashville, Tennessee)

I had to be at Metro Center in Nashville at noon for a job interview so I went early so I could get some shots of the Metro Center Levee along the Cumberland River. The flowers were in bloom and the bumble bee’s were having a grand old time. I would liked to have walked a little on the levee, but I was in dress clothes and it was humid outside—-translation: TOO HOT

Stones River Float 6-30-13

Six of us floated down the Stones River in Murfreesboro for about four miles or so, it was a spur of the moment trip but a great one.

We had rapids at one point, we had to float over a couple of small waterfalls and at other points we had to get out an drag our kayaks—-NOW that is a diversified river.

We put in at the Medical Center Parkway Trail Head (formerly Manson Pk) and floated down to the Thompson Lane Trail Head. It was nice weather and the water was wonderfully warm.

This was the first time I got to float with my sister Gina and it was a great time!
