Hamilton Creek Recreation Area 9-29-12

On a whim, me and my basset hound, Katie went for a short walk at Hamilton Creek Recreation Area @ Percy Priest Lake. We hiked the 2.6 mile loop Lakeside Trail. The trail meandered around the shore of the lake and up into the woods a bit. It was not the prettiest hike I have ever been on but not the ugliest either by far.

It was just an all around nice day.

Because it was National Public Lands Day and BECAUSE I overslept and missed the trail work at Barfield, I took a big trash bag along and I believe it may have been full by the first mile and bulging and ripping by the end. Sad to see so much trash at our lakes.

Tennessee River Gorge Kayak 9-26-12

This was a wonderful adventure. I would love to do this again in mid-October to see the leaves in brilliant color—-but, it was fine as it was. This was a very long nine mile journey along the Tennessee River Gorge in Chattanooga, TN. This particular section is part of the Nickajack Lake and our trip began at Suck Creek and we journeyed to Raccoon Mountain.

Along the way there were beautiful homes on the river and in some places nothing but trees and the rock walls that make the gorge. It was a beautiful day with moderate temperatures and I still managed to get sunburned on my face, head and hands.

If you love to kayak..THIS is a trip you MUST take. I would venture to say that this is the prettiest nine mile stretch of river in the entire state of Tennessee!

Nice Mill Dam (Stones River) 9-25-12

On the way home from work today I decided to make a pit stop at Nice Mill Dam near the East Fork Recreation Area. This was my first visit and I found it to be truly wonderful. There is just something special about these small dams and the constant running water. I could sleep on the dam all night with that perfect white noise. There were also lots of nice wild flowers out as well. The end of summers were blooming as fall is coming in.
