I decided to take a small tour of Franklin today and had two stops. Carnton and Carter House. These photos of Carnton Plantation are accompanied by the McGavock Family Cemetery and the McGavock Confederate Cemetery.

Carnton Plantation is an old Civil War hospital that has also been used for many other things over the years. It is located in Franklin, Tennessee and was a central hub in the Battle of Franklin during the Civil War. The home and grounds are open for tours and can be reserved for weddings and other events. The plantation has a beautiful garden located in the same spot that it was originally planted—The huge tree (which I have a photo of) and several Yucca plants are the only remains of the ORIGINAL garden. The rest has been re-created to look as if it did when the McGavock’s owned the home.

You can also visit the McGavock family cemetery and the adjacent McGavock Confederate Cemetery that are both located on the property.
